The population was around 27,200. The University of Calicut stand in Thenhipalam Grama Panchayath, which is the first university in Malabar region. The university is located north-west part of Tenhipalam. 'Chelari' is the main commercial place and town in Tenhipalam panchayat while 'Panambra' is considered as the headquarters of the panchayat.
Geography
Thenhipalam panchayath shares its borders with Pallikkal and Peruvalloor panchayats in east, Chelembra panchayat in north side, Kadalundi River separate Vallikkunnu panchayat in west side and Southern it shares border with Mooniyoor Grama panchayat. It is located 24 km south of Kozhikode on the Mangalore–Edapally national highway 17. Tenhipalam Grama panchayat is situated north west region of Malappuram district, about 35 km away from district headquarters Malappuram and 11 km north of Taluk headquarters Tirurangadi.
Transport
National Highway 17 passes through Tenhipalam Panchayath. All rural localities in the panchayat are well connected to the arterial national highway by roads. Mini buses and parallel jeep service operate from rural areas to nearest small towns such as Ramanattukara Chemmad, Feroke, Kondotty and Kottakadavu. Private Buses operating between Thrissur, Ernamkulam, Guruvayoor and Kozhikode call at the University of Calicut. KSRTC buses, which operate between Kozhikode and various southern places in Kerala also have stop at the university on route to Tenhipalam. Tenhipalam is well transporting roads to all parts of Kerala by road.
